When you or a loved one is faced with an illness, injury, or disability, it's often difficult to know where to start when looking for assistive devices. Today we will go over the three common types of assistive devices: gait trainers, walkers, and rollators. We'll explain the purpose of each device and offer tips on how to choose the right one for your needs.

Gait Trainers

Gait trainers provide support for those who have difficulty walking due to physical or neurological disabilities. They are designed to help maintain proper posture and gait patterns, as well as improve balance, coordination, and motor skills. They come in a variety of sizes and styles to suit different users’ needs.

At Build My Wheelchair, we offer both pediatric and adult gait trainers. Some of our pediatric gait trainers include:

While our adult gait trainer collection includes:

Walkers

Walkers are devices used to provide support while walking. They have four legs, two on each side, and are typically lightweight and collapsible. Walkers feature handgrips that can be adjusted in height, so they are comfortable for the user. Many models also come with brakes or locking mechanisms for extra stability.

At Build My Wheelchair, we offer a variety of walkers with and without two wheels.

Rollators

Rollators are similar to walkers, but they have four wheels instead of legs and typically feature a seat. They provide more stability and independence than walkers, allowing the user to move faster over varied terrain. Rollators also come with features such as brakes and adjustable handles for added convenience.

At Build My Wheelchair, we offer a variety of rollators made of steel, aluminum, and even ultra-lightweight carbon fiber.
